Due to its partnership with Senomyx (stock symbol SNMX), a biotech company that uses aborted fetal cells in the research and development of artificial flavor enhancers PepsiCo has earned this month’s Cultural Polluter award.

Pepsi is funding research and development for the company Senomyx to produce HEX-293 (human embryonic kidney cells) which are obtained from electively aborted babies and used as flavor enhancers for Pepsi beverages.

Aborted fetal cells are not in the Pepsi actual products purchased by consumers, however numerous pro-life organizations www.cogforlife.organdwww.lifeissues.orghave informed Pepsi that other less controversial methods could have been used successfully.  Cells such as COS (monkey) cells, Chinese Hamster Ovary cells, insect cells or other morally obtained human cells expressing the G protein for taste receptors.

PepsiCo has been steadfast in their position to continue using HEX-293 causing many pro-life organizations to encourage the public to boycott all Pepsi drink products and encourage consumers to contact Pepsi management requesting that they sever all ties with Senomyx.
